What Are Hearing Aids?
Hearing aids are small electronic devices worn in or behind the ear that amplify sound, helping people with hearing loss hear speech and everyday sounds more clearly. General education only — an audiologist can advise on what applies to you specifically.
Hearing Aid Styles
A quick overview of the common styles — your specialist will recommend the style that fits your hearing loss, ear shape and lifestyle.
Behind-the-Ear (BTE)
Worn behind the ear and suitable for various degrees of hearing loss — clear performance with comfortable daily use.
In-the-Ear (ITE)
Compact device worn inside the ear — discreet and comfortable for everyday wear.
Completely-in-Canal (CIC)
Nearly invisible device worn deep in the ear canal — maximum discretion and a natural look.
Rechargeable
Hearing aid with a rechargeable battery — practical and cost-effective with no need to replace batteries.
Who May Benefit
Anyone noticing difficulty following conversations, frequently raising the TV volume, or asking others to repeat themselves may benefit from a hearing assessment. A comprehensive hearing test is the only way to know for sure — not a checklist here.
Key Considerations
- Degree and type of hearing loss
- Lifestyle — work, social life, phone and media use
- Comfort and discretion preferences
- Battery type: rechargeable or disposable
- Budget
- Professional fitting and follow-up care
