Danavox Klar vs Barani: Which One Is for You?

Audiology8 min read

Klar vs Barani: in our catalogue, both Danavox families have 12 models, but they are built differently. KLAR offers the Essential and Essential Plus technology levels (8 or 12 channels) and the widest range of styles, from CIC in the ear canal to Super Power BTE, including two rechargeable RIC models. BARANI offers the Select, Advanced and Premium levels (12, 14 or 17 channels) in RIC and behind-the-ear styles, and every BARANI model uses disposable zinc-air batteries. Which one suits you depends on your hearing test, the style your ear needs and how you spend your day.

Both families share some manufacturer features, such as a dynamic range of up to 116 dB SPL and IP68-rated designs, so they can look similar on paper. This comparison sets out the facts from the published catalogue, quotes what Danavox says about each family and suggests who may lean one way or the other. The final choice of hearing aids is always made with the audiologist after a hearing test at our clinic in Muscat.

KLAR: models by style

CIC (2 models)

  • XC3CIC: Essential, 8 channels, 10 zinc-air battery
  • XC4CIC: Essential Plus, 12 channels, 10 zinc-air battery

The catalogue notes that these need a cabled fitting, lists receiver options LP, MP and HP, and lists IP68 certification. They are the only completely-in-canal models in the Danavox catalogue and they are non-wireless, so the streaming features listed for the family do not apply to them. NIDCD describes canal aids as generally suited to mild to moderately severe hearing loss, with less room for batteries and extra features.

RIC (4 models)

  • XC361-DRW: Essential, 8 channels, 312 zinc-air battery
  • XC461-DRW: Essential Plus, 12 channels, 312 zinc-air battery
  • XC361-DRWC: Essential, 8 channels, rechargeable
  • XC461-DRWC: Essential Plus, 12 channels, rechargeable

The notes list receiver options LP, MP, HP and UP and a programmable push button or toggle.

Behind-the-ear (6 models)

  • Standard BTE: XC377-DW (Essential, 8 channels) and XC477-DW (Essential Plus, 12 channels), both 13 zinc-air
  • Power BTE: XC388-DWH (Essential, 8 channels) and XC488-DWH (Essential Plus, 12 channels), both 13 zinc-air
  • Super Power BTE: XC398-DW (Essential, 8 channels) and XC498-DW (Essential Plus, 12 channels), both 675 zinc-air

The notes for these models list a push button and toggle, telecoil and DAI, and IP68 certification.

Where the two families really differ

Technology level

KLAR sits in the Essential range; BARANI moves up through Select, Advanced and Premium, with more channels at each step. Higher levels generally adapt more automatically to noisy and changing places. Our article on hearing aid technology levels explains what usually changes, and why the highest level is not automatically the right one for everyone.

Styles and power

KLAR covers more ground: it has the CIC option and a Super Power BTE, which BARANI does not. BARANI adds a Mini BTE, which KLAR does not. Both have RIC, Standard BTE and Power BTE models. Super power behind-the-ear models are considered when a hearing test shows more severe hearing loss.

Rechargeable or battery

Between these two families, only KLAR offers rechargeable models: the XC361-DRWC and XC461-DRWC RIC models. Every BARANI model, and every other KLAR model, uses replaceable zinc-air batteries.

Which one may suit whom?

General starting points only, not recommendations:

  • You may lean towards KLAR if your listening life is mostly calm and predictable, if you want a rechargeable RIC at the Essential levels, if your hearing test points towards a super power BTE, or if a CIC is being considered for your ear and degree of hearing loss.
  • You may lean towards BARANI if you are often in varied or noisy situations and want a choice of technology level, if you prefer a Mini BTE, or if you are happy to use zinc-air batteries.
  • Either family may work if you mainly want a RIC or a standard or power BTE with phone streaming; then the technology level and battery preference usually decide.

Your hearing test results, ear shape, dexterity and daily routine all shape the decision, and the audiologist confirms the final choice during a Danavox hearing aid fitting consultation. NIDCD also reminds readers that a hearing aid will not restore normal hearing; follow-up adjustments help you get the most from whichever model you choose.

On cost: we do not publish prices. What changes the price is technology level, style, rechargeable or battery power, one or two hearing aids, and accessories. You can request a quote for a specific model or book an assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Is BARANI better than KLAR?

Not for everyone. BARANI offers higher technology levels and more channels, while KLAR offers more styles, including CIC, super power and rechargeable RIC models. The better choice is the one that fits your hearing test and daily life.

Are KLAR or BARANI hearing aids rechargeable?

Only two models across both families are rechargeable: KLAR XC361-DRWC and XC461-DRWC. All other KLAR models and all BARANI models use disposable zinc-air batteries.

Can I stream calls with the KLAR CIC?

No. The KLAR CIC models are non-wireless. If phone streaming matters to you, the RIC or BTE models in either family list streaming features; ask us which fits your hearing.

Does BARANI have a super power or in-canal model?

No. BARANI covers RIC, Mini BTE, Standard BTE and Power BTE. Super power and CIC models in these two families are found only in KLAR.
