Danavox Klar Models: All 12 Hearing Aids by Style, Battery and Level

Audiology8 min read

The Danavox Klar models in our catalogue are 12 hearing aids in five styles: 2 completely-in-canal (CIC), 4 receiver-in-canal (RIC), 2 Standard BTE, 2 Power BTE and 2 Super Power BTE. Every style comes in two technology levels, Essential (8 channels) and Essential Plus (12 channels). Two of the RIC models are rechargeable; the other ten use disposable zinc-air batteries in sizes 10, 312, 13 or 675.

The family page shows what KLAR is. This guide answers the next question: which model inside the family, and who might it suit? It goes through every model by style, with its battery, technology level, channels and the portfolio notes from the catalogue. The final choice is always made with an audiologist after a hearing test, because the right hearing aid depends on your results, your ears and your daily routine.

What Danavox says about the KLAR family

According to Danavox, KLAR offers "great audibility all-around", "easy hearing control on aids" and is "designed for any lifestyle, maintenance-free hearing". The key features the manufacturer lists for the family are:

  • A dynamic range of up to 116 dB SPL.
  • All-weatherproof designs with an IP68 rating. Every KLAR model in our catalogue carries the note "IP68 certified". IP68 describes resistance to dust and water, not a device made for swimming.

For connectivity, Danavox lists streaming of calls and music from iPhone, iPad or Android, hands-free calls on iPhone 11 or later with iOS 15.3 or later, and Auracast-enabled accessories. This applies to the wireless models only: Danavox describes the KLAR CIC as a non-wireless option, so the two CIC models do not stream.

You can see all twelve on the Danavox KLAR family page.

Danavox Klar models by style

Completely-in-canal (CIC): 2 models

  • XC3CIC: Essential, 8 channels, size 10 zinc-air battery.
  • XC4CIC: Essential Plus, 12 channels, size 10 zinc-air battery.

Portfolio notes for both: cabled fitting required, receiver options LP, MP and HP, IP68 certified. "Cabled fitting" means the audiologist programs them with a wired connection. These are the only custom in-canal hearing aids in our Danavox catalogue. NIDCD notes that canal hearing aids are generally used for mild to moderately severe hearing loss, and that their small size limits power and leaves less room for extras such as a telecoil. Details are on the XC4CIC model page.

Receiver-in-canal (RIC): 4 models

  • XC361-DRW: Essential, 8 channels, size 312 zinc-air battery.
  • XC461-DRW: Essential Plus, 12 channels, size 312 zinc-air battery.
  • XC361-DRWC: Essential, 8 channels, rechargeable.
  • XC461-DRWC: Essential Plus, 12 channels, rechargeable.

Portfolio notes for this group: receiver options LP, MP, HP and UP; a programmable push button or toggle; IP68 certified. The portfolio also notes telecoil and DAI (direct audio input) in a "62-DRW" version, which is not one of the models in our catalogue, so ask the audiologist if you need a telecoil. For the rechargeable pair, Danavox's portfolio note reads "all-day battery on one charge", marked with an asterisk in the portfolio, so real use will vary. You can read more on the XC461-DRWC model page.

Standard BTE: 2 models

  • XC377-DW: Essential, 8 channels, size 13 zinc-air battery.
  • XC477-DW: Essential Plus, 12 channels, size 13 zinc-air battery.

Notes: push button and toggle, telecoil and DAI, IP68 certified.

Power BTE: 2 models

  • XC388-DWH: Essential, 8 channels, size 13 zinc-air battery.
  • XC488-DWH: Essential Plus, 12 channels, size 13 zinc-air battery.

Notes: push button and toggle, telecoil and DAI, IP68 certified, and a metal hook for the High Power "88-DWHT" version.

Super Power BTE: 2 models

  • XC398-DW: Essential, 8 channels, size 675 zinc-air battery.
  • XC498-DW: Essential Plus, 12 channels, size 675 zinc-air battery.

Notes: push button and toggle, telecoil and DAI, IP68 certified. Super Power BTE models are built for greater amplification and are considered when a hearing test shows more severe hearing loss. NIDCD describes behind-the-ear hearing aids as used for mild to profound hearing loss.

Essential or Essential Plus?

Each KLAR style is offered as a pair. The model codes show it: a "3" after "XC" is the Essential version with 8 channels, and a "4" is Essential Plus with 12 channels. More channels let the audiologist shape the sound in finer steps across the pitches, and a higher technology level usually adapts more automatically to changing places. Whether that difference matters to you depends on how varied and noisy your days are. Our article on hearing aid technology levels explains this in more detail.

Battery choices inside the family

KLAR is the only Danavox family in our catalogue that covers all five battery options:

  • Rechargeable: XC361-DRWC and XC461-DRWC only.
  • Size 10 zinc-air: the two CIC models.
  • Size 312 zinc-air: XC361-DRW and XC461-DRW.
  • Size 13 zinc-air: the Standard BTE and Power BTE models.
  • Size 675 zinc-air: the Super Power BTE models.

So "KLAR" does not automatically mean rechargeable or wireless. If charging overnight instead of changing batteries matters to you, the choice narrows to the two -DRWC models.

Who might each KLAR model suit?

These are starting points, not recommendations. Your hearing test, ear shape and routine decide.

  • CIC (XC3CIC, XC4CIC): people who want a custom device in the ear canal, have a suitable canal and a degree of hearing loss that a canal aid can serve, and do not need streaming. Small batteries need steady fingers and good eyesight.
  • RIC with battery (XC361-DRW, XC461-DRW): people who want a discreet behind-the-ear case with a receiver in the canal, plus streaming, and who are happy to change batteries.
  • RIC rechargeable (XC361-DRWC, XC461-DRWC): the same style for people who prefer an overnight charging routine to handling small batteries.
  • Standard BTE (XC377-DW, XC477-DW): people who want a larger device that is easier to hold, with push button, toggle and telecoil.
  • Power and Super Power BTE (XC388-DWH, XC488-DWH, XC398-DW, XC498-DW): people whose results show more significant hearing loss and who need more amplification.

Comfort, glasses, a hijab or a ghutra, how you use your phone and how often you are in noisy gatherings are all worth mentioning at your appointment.

How the final choice is made

  1. Hearing test: shows the type and degree of hearing loss in each ear, and whether anything needs medical attention first.
  2. Shortlist: the audiologist matches the results to the styles and receivers that can serve them.
  3. Fitting: the chosen model is programmed to your results, with ear impressions for custom moulds or a CIC shell when needed.
  4. Follow-up: fine-tuning visits as you get used to the sound.

As an authorised Danavox (GN Hearing) dealer in Oman, we handle this from assessment to follow-up through our Danavox hearing aid fitting service. If your hearing drops suddenly, seek same-day medical care rather than waiting for a hearing aid appointment.

Frequently asked questions

How many Danavox Klar models are there?

Our catalogue lists 12 KLAR models: 2 CIC, 4 RIC, 2 Standard BTE, 2 Power BTE and 2 Super Power BTE. Each style comes in an Essential and an Essential Plus version.

Are all KLAR hearing aids rechargeable?

No. Only XC361-DRWC and XC461-DRWC are rechargeable. The other ten models use zinc-air batteries in size 10, 312, 13 or 675, depending on the style.

Can the KLAR CIC stream calls from my phone?

No. Danavox describes the KLAR CIC as non-wireless, and the catalogue notes that it needs a cabled fitting. If phone streaming matters to you, the RIC and BTE models are the ones to discuss.

What is the difference between XC3 and XC4 models?

The "3" models are the Essential level with 8 channels, and the "4" models are Essential Plus with 12 channels. The style, battery and notes are otherwise the same within each pair.

Is KLAR suitable for severe hearing loss?

The family includes Power BTE and Super Power BTE models, which are built for greater amplification. Whether any of them suits you depends on your hearing test results and the audiologist's assessment.
