Danavox Astro Pro SP Models: Who Are These Super Power Hearing Aids For?
The Danavox Astro Pro SP models in our catalogue are three Super Power behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids: XG598-DWHC, XG798-DWHC and XG998-DWHC. All three are rechargeable, and they differ in technology level: Select with 12 channels, Advanced with 14 and Premium with 17.
Super Power BTE hearing aids are built for greater amplification and are considered when a hearing test shows more severe hearing loss. This guide explains what separates the three Astro Pro SP models, what the catalogue lists for them and who they may suit. Whether you need a Super Power hearing aid at all is decided by your audiologist from your hearing test, not from a product page.
Danavox Astro Pro SP models at a glance
Danavox describes this family as the "world's smallest rechargeable Super Power hearing aids, available in Danavox Astro Pro and Danavox Astro Core families". On its own website, Danavox says the family is built for the real needs of people with severe-to-profound hearing loss. These are manufacturer statements. Our Astro Pro SP family page lists the three models:
- [XG598-DWHC](/en/hearing-aids/astro-pro-sp/xg598-dwhc): Super Power BTE, rechargeable, Select technology level, 12 channels.
- XG798-DWHC: Super Power BTE, rechargeable, Advanced technology level, 14 channels.
- [XG998-DWHC](/en/hearing-aids/astro-pro-sp/xg998-dwhc): Super Power BTE, rechargeable, Premium technology level, 17 channels.
That is the complete family: one style, one battery type and three technology levels. There is no disposable-battery version and no receiver-in-canal version within Astro Pro SP.
What the catalogue lists for every Astro Pro SP model
The portfolio notes are the same for all three models:
- All-day battery on one charge: the hearing aids are charged rather than fitted with disposable batteries.
- IP68 rated: Danavox describes the family as fully nanocoated inside and out. IP68 means resistance to dust and water; it does not mean the hearing aids are meant for swimming.
- TapControl: listed for this family.
- Programmable push button and toggle: your audiologist sets what each control does, such as volume or programme changes.
- Telecoil: listed for all three models.
- Exchangeable microphone filters: replaceable during cleaning and maintenance.
- Optional plastic hook configurable in the fitting software: an option the audiologist sets up during fitting.
Manufacturer features
According to Danavox, the family offers:
- Clear Focus, which Danavox calls industry-leading, with a 2.7 dB SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) improvement over legacy technology, in Danavox's words.
- 360 All-Around.
- Two feedback cancellers for fixed physical and acoustic factors. Feedback is the whistling a hearing aid can make when amplified sound leaks back to the microphone, which is a particular consideration at high amplification.
- Up to 6 dB more added stable gain compared with other Super Power solutions.
These figures are the manufacturer's claims. How much difference they make for you depends on your hearing, your earmould and how the hearing aids are programmed.
Connectivity and accessories
The catalogue lists Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio, Auracast and telecoil for Astro Pro SP, plus MultiConnect, which allows connection to two devices at the same time. It also states that the family works with TV-Streamer+ and Multi-Mic+:
- TV-Streamer+: described by Danavox as giving speech clarity at your preferred volume, with a sleek, lightweight design, made for Auracast.
- Multi-Mic+: a remote microphone that Danavox describes as the world's first remote mic with Auracast, which can extend hearing range by up to 80 feet.
If distance or background noise is a problem for you, a remote microphone is worth asking about. Accessories are optional and only added if you need them. Before relying on phone streaming, bring your phone to your appointment so compatibility can be checked.
Daily life with a rechargeable Super Power hearing aid
A rechargeable hearing aid is charged overnight in a charger instead of having its batteries changed, so placing it in the charger at bedtime becomes part of the daily routine. Our accessories catalogue lists three Danavox chargers: a Desktop Charger, a Standard Charger in a carry-case style with a lid and removable cable, and a Premium Charger with an onboard battery for up to three days of portable charging without a power outlet. Our team confirms which charger is compatible with your hearing aids and whether it is available.
Select, Advanced or Premium?
The three models share the same body and battery; the technology level is what changes. The channel count rises with the level (12, 14 and 17), and higher levels generally adapt more automatically to noisy and changing places. In this family the first digit after "XG" follows the level: 5 for Select, 7 for Advanced and 9 for Premium.
The technology level is one of the things that changes the price, together with style, rechargeable or battery power, one or two hearing aids and accessories. We do not publish prices. You can request a quote for a specific model or book an assessment, and we will explain the options for your results.
Who might Astro Pro SP suit?
Only a hearing test can answer this, but these are reasonable starting points for the conversation:
- Your hearing test shows severe or profound hearing loss and your audiologist recommends a Super Power BTE. Our article on hearing aids for severe to profound hearing loss explains this level of hearing loss and the options in more depth.
- You want a rechargeable Super Power hearing aid rather than one that uses disposable batteries.
- You want direct streaming, Auracast or telecoil as part of a powerful hearing aid.
- You are already wearing a Super Power hearing aid and are reviewing your options after a new hearing test.
Astro Pro SP is not the only Super Power option in our catalogue. KLAR, Anthe and Astro Core also include Super Power BTE models. The KLAR and Anthe Super Power models use size 675 zinc-air batteries, while the two Astro Core Super Power models (XH398-DWHC and XH498-DWHC) are rechargeable at the Essential and Essential Plus levels. Your audiologist can compare these with you.
Fitting a Super Power hearing aid
Higher amplification makes the physical fit and programming especially important. The fitting may include ear impressions for custom earmoulds when needed, and the hearing aids are programmed to your hearing test results during a Danavox hearing aid fitting appointment. Follow-up visits are then used to fine-tune the settings as you get used to them.
Hearing aids do not restore normal hearing, but they can make sounds more audible and speech easier to follow, and regular wear with follow-up adjustments makes a real difference. Every Danavox hearing aid from us comes with a one-year warranty from the date of purchase. The full warranty terms, including what is not covered and the condition that the hearing aids are not programmed or repaired elsewhere, are on our hearing aids page.
If your hearing drops suddenly, in one or both ears, seek medical care the same day rather than waiting for a hearing aid appointment.
Frequently asked questions
How many models are in Danavox Astro Pro SP?
Three: XG598-DWHC (Select, 12 channels), XG798-DWHC (Advanced, 14 channels) and XG998-DWHC (Premium, 17 channels). All are rechargeable Super Power BTE hearing aids.
Is Astro Pro SP part of Astro Pro?
Our catalogue lists Astro Pro SP as its own family. Danavox describes these Super Power hearing aids as available in the Astro Pro and Astro Core families, and our catalogue lists two rechargeable Super Power models in Astro Core as well.
Do Astro Pro SP hearing aids use batteries?
They use a built-in rechargeable battery. The catalogue lists an all-day battery on one charge for all three models; none of them uses disposable batteries.
Does a Super Power hearing aid mean I have profound hearing loss?
No. The style is chosen from your hearing test. A Super Power BTE is considered when the results show more severe hearing loss, and your audiologist explains why a given level of power is or is not recommended.
