Where to Buy Genuine Hearing Aids in Muscat

Audiology8 min read

To buy genuine hearing aids in Muscat, go to an authorised dealer for the brand that starts with a hearing test, has a qualified professional program the hearing aids to your results, gives you clear written warranty terms and is still there after the sale for fine-tuning, maintenance and follow-up. A hearing aid is not an off-the-shelf product: most of its value comes from being set up for your ears.

Behind a search for "where to buy hearing aids in Muscat" is usually a deeper question: is it genuine, and will it keep working for me after I leave? Below is a checklist you can use anywhere, then how buying works at Jordan Hearing & Speech in Bousher.

What makes a hearing aid genuine in practice?

"Genuine" means more than a device made by the manufacturer. A hearing aid has to be programmed, and that needs the manufacturer's fitting software and someone trained to use it. In practical terms, a genuine hearing aid comes with four things:

  • A device from an authorised source for the brand, with a clearly named model, technology level and power type.
  • Programming based on your audiogram (your hearing test results), not on generic default settings.
  • A written warranty that tells you what is covered, what is not and under which conditions.
  • After-sales care: fine-tuning, maintenance and follow-up from the same place that programmed it.

Without all four, a device can work technically and still not do the job you bought it for.

A checklist before you buy

Note the answers before deciding. Vague answers are a reason to slow down.

1. Is the seller an authorised dealer for the brand?

Ask directly whether they are an authorised dealer for that brand in Oman, and how warranty service and repairs are handled, and by whom.

2. Does it start with a hearing test?

A hearing aid is selected and programmed from your hearing test results, and the test also shows whether anything needs medical attention before a hearing aid is considered. If you are offered a hearing aid without any test, that is worth pausing over.

3. Who will program the hearing aid?

Programming turns a device into your hearing aid. Ask who does it and whether they check the fit and show you how to use, clean and charge it. For what usually happens, read Your Hearing Aid Fitting Appointment: What Happens, Step by Step.

4. What does the warranty say, in writing?

"It has a warranty" is not enough. Ask when it starts, how long it lasts, what it covers and excludes, and whether there are conditions.

5. What happens after the sale?

New hearing aids usually need adjusting, because missed sounds can feel unfamiliar at first. Ask about follow-up visits, maintenance and what happens if you cannot come in.

6. Are chargers and accessories genuine and compatible?

Chargers, TV streamers and remote microphones should come from the same manufacturer, with compatibility confirmed by whoever programs your hearing aids.

Red flags worth noticing

None of these proves bad intent, but each is a reason to ask more or wait:

  • No hearing test before the sale, or just a quick "can you hear me?".
  • "One size fits all": the same device with the same settings handed to everyone, with no programming to your results.
  • No warranty paperwork, or a verbal warranty with no details.
  • Nobody to go back to for adjustments or repairs.
  • An unclear model: no model name, style or power type (rechargeable or battery) stated.
  • Pressure to buy on the spot before you understand the options and what suits your results.

Also remember that sound amplifiers sold online and ordinary earphones for phones and music are not hearing aids programmed to an audiogram, even when they show up under similar names in search results.

What to check on the day you collect your hearing aids

Before you leave the fitting, go over these points and ask for anything unclear to be explained again:

  • The model name and style, and whether it is rechargeable or uses replaceable batteries.
  • How to put the hearing aids in and take them out, and how to clean them every day.
  • How to charge them or change batteries, and what to do if the sound becomes weak.
  • The warranty paperwork: what is covered and what is not.
  • When your next follow-up visit is, and how to reach the clinic if you need help before then.

What about the price?

Comparing numbers alone is misleading unless you also compare what comes with the hearing aid: test, programming, warranty and follow-up. At Jordan Hearing & Speech we do not publish prices online, because the right hearing aid depends on your assessment. What changes the price:

  • Technology level: how much the hearing aid adapts automatically to noisy and changing places.
  • Style: behind the ear, receiver in the canal or custom in the ear.
  • Rechargeable or disposable batteries: a rechargeable model includes a charger; battery models need replacement batteries.
  • One or two hearing aids: depends on the hearing in each ear.
  • Accessories: TV streamers, remote microphones or a remote control, only if you need them.

You can ask for a quote for a specific model, or book an assessment and we will explain the options for your results.

How buying works at Jordan Hearing & Speech

Jordan Hearing & Speech is an authorised dealer for GN Hearing – Danavox in the Sultanate of Oman. Our clinic is in Bousher, Muscat, opposite Oman Mall. The process looks like this:

  1. A hearing test first. You do not need a referral for a hearing test, and we test both adults and children.
  2. Your results and options explained. We go through what the test shows and which styles and models in our hearing aid catalogue suit it.
  3. Selection, fitting and programming. Your hearing aids are programmed to your results as part of our Danavox hearing aid fitting and follow-up service.
  4. After-sales care. This covers programming, fine-tuning, maintenance, follow-up, cleaning, periodic check-ups and home support for patients who are unable to come to the clinic.

The warranty, as published

Every Danavox hearing aid from us comes with a one-year warranty that starts on the date of purchase and covers manufacturing defects and maintenance. During the warranty there is a periodic visit every three months, which includes a hearing test (audiogram), programming and free maintenance.

The warranty does not cover breakage, misuse, cut wires or hearing aids dropped into liquids. Its condition: the hearing aids must not be programmed at another hearing centre, and no repair may be attempted by a technician who is not part of our centre.

Genuine chargers and accessories

Danavox accessories are available on request. There are three chargers: the Desktop Charger; the Standard Charger, a carry-case style charger with a lid that protects the hearing aids; and the Premium Charger, which Danavox describes as a powerbank-style charger with an onboard battery for up to three days of on-the-go charging without a power outlet. Wireless accessories include the Remote Control, TV-Streamer 2, TV-Streamer+ and the Multi-Mic+ remote microphone.

These products are not sold online; our team confirms availability, price and compatibility with your hearing aids. See accessories and chargers for details.

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell if a hearing aid is genuine?

Buy from an authorised dealer, ask for the model name, style and technology level, get the warranty in writing, and have it programmed to your results by a provider who can maintain it after the sale.

Do I need a hearing test before buying a hearing aid?

Yes. The hearing aid is selected and programmed from your results, and the test also shows whether anything needs medical attention first. You do not need a referral for a hearing test with us.

Is the warranty still valid if my hearing aid is programmed elsewhere?

The warranty condition described above requires programming and repairs to be done by our centre. During the warranty, come back to us for any programming or maintenance.

Will a hearing aid restore my hearing to normal?

No. Hearing aids do not restore natural hearing or reverse hearing loss. They make sounds audible and speech easier to follow, and the benefit differs from person to person. Regular wear and follow-up adjustments make a real difference.

What if a patient cannot come to the clinic?

Our after-sales care includes home support for patients who are unable to come to the clinic. Contact us to talk about what you need.
