A service dedicated to following up people who use a cochlear implant, to support the hearing and communication benefit they gain from it and to follow the development of their listening and speech understanding.

What This Includes

Follow-up

Includes assessing hearing performance, following the response to sounds and speech, and setting rehabilitation programmes suited to age, the stage of implant use and individual needs.

It may include

  • Hearing and functional assessment
  • Determining the level of listening skills
  • Setting rehabilitation goals
  • Auditory training
  • Following speech understanding and discrimination
  • Monitoring progress regularly

The service can include assessment, follow-up and auditory rehabilitation, with coordination and referral to a cochlear implant centre or team when specialised services related to the device or its programming are needed that are not carried out at our centre.
